Elk Point offers most of the services required by trail users. There are service stations, motels, a hotel, restaurants, and retail outlets. All are easily accessible from the trail.
Elk Point is a picturesque town and is situated just north of the North Saskatchewan River.
A chainsaw carved statue of Peter Fidler, Alberta’s first surveyor, overlooks Elk Point from the top of the hill on the north edge of town.
The Fort George-Buckingham House museum and interpretive centre can be accessed from the Iron Horse Trail several kilometres east of Elk Point.
